    Default M1957 Dienst Rock...

Here is my model 1957 four pocket service jacket, this is my oldest example in my collection of this style of jacket, its label shows it to have been made in February 1960...this style was introduced in mid 1957 to replace the double breasted short Affenjacke style of tunics...a heavy woolen mix jacket with four patch pockets, open neck style coller with french/loose cuffs, this style is with a little alteration still worn today as a service/walking out jacket in todays Bundeswehr, having evolved from the tunic I show here....the M57 tunic sported pointed shoulder straps and could have fixed upon the wearers right arm an oval armshield for either Fallschirmjager or Gebirgsjager affiliation...in 1962 Division/Brigade Arm shields were introduced and were worn on the wearers left upper arm...the new rank structure/regulations in 1963 did away with the pointed straps and they became rounded, the arm chevrons of junior NCO's being discontinued and small metal rank devices were fitted to the shoulder straps instead...this rank structure is still used today.
The tunic shown here was obtained from E-Bay for £4.75p ! I did offer the seller £20, but he declined, insisting it ran its course......
It is for a Sanitats (Medic) Hauptgefreiter Fischer, attached to the "Zentral Sanitatedienst".
In the pocket is an official BW uniform alteration form, instructing the tailor in the clothing department to affix collar patches/armshield and medical specialist badge, this would of been around 1962, sadly the form/ticket is not dated ....it is marked "SS Fischer" (This I believe was why the seller wanted the tunic to run the auction !) of course "SS" is for "Sanitats" a Medic, and has no connection what so ever to the other SS thingy !
    Prost ! Steve.

Congratulations on another very nice item.

Do allow me one observation, though: The tag is a Bundeswehr form, but it really has nothing to do with tailoring; it is a tag for damaged technical equipment to be repaired, apparently specifically for motor vehicles or their component parts. The printed text translates as:

    "Observed damages:
    Device/assembly group complete: y/n
Conservation for damaged assembly group undertaken: y/n
    On the inventory of unit:
    Turned in by unit:
    Stock designation:
    Stock no.:
    Designation and type:
    Serial no.:
    Is a component of set/device:
    Removed from vehicle no.:
    Y-Nr.:
    Mileage/runtime:
    Failure on:
    Warranty: y/n
Damage with third-pary liability as per SB: y/n
Accident/event of damage or loss: y/n
reported to WBV on ... with file no. ... by ...
    "

Perhaps somebody (a previous owner? a dealer?) has "recycled" this tag?

Thanks for that ! my German is the tourist type !(Food/Beer/Room etc...) I assumed with the form having references to insignia/badges it was instructions for the Company tailor !
    Prost ! Steve.
