Looks like police to, typically with the postwar west german caps they green top I believe is meant to symbolize police

Cheers guys. I'm still stumped on this one, I understand it had the cockade on the top, not sure which branch of police it is and the type of insignia it once had?

It is BRD Justice. The insignia would depend on the state.

Hi Rene, Like you, I have no idea but Stonemint has ID'ed it anyway. After all is said, it is a very nice cap and I particularly like the style of the chin strap. So if it is not your scene, as a personal favour to you, I'll take it off your hands!! You know Rene it amazes me how kind I am to you Ausies!!! LOL
