Where to clip the canteen?

I recently bought this type of canteen to finish up my 1970s/80s Bundeswehr kit. I'm just wondering where the canteen clips onto? I've seen a picture of it clipped on to the (bread?)bag, or does it clip onto a D clip, like the Austrian Bundesheer?

Hi Fin ,The Canteen is clipped to the back pack on my the late 1950's early 60's flitzlouse uniform and field gear display if this is of any help
