Ageing m1 parts

Article about: i have an m1 fixed bale helmet from another thread that is missing the straps and the liner is missing the leather strap. is their any way to age the leather on the liner strap and the chins

    i have an m1 fixed bale helmet from another thread that is missing the straps and the liner is missing the leather strap. is their any way to age the leather on the liner strap and the chinstraps for the pot until i get originals? thanks.

    I can understand where you are coming from.
    But personally I don’t like to see aged repo straps on original helmets.
    If I was you I would just enjoy them as they are and hope to pick up an original liner strap which of course wont be cheap.

    I started out thinking like this and did a complete u turn.i would rather go without than have anything in my home that was modern repro..........Jake.

    there is evidence of helmets being worn without chinstraps during their service life. put a net or cover on the helmet and put it on a shelf now you can just leave it there and not worry about the helmet sitting on the straps.
