Help appreciated with this ONE OF A KIND helmet!

Hello All!

I am Kenneth and I've got a little question for a while now.

What I have here is a M1 helmet.

I've posted this one on many fora by now, and nobody has been able to provide any conclusive material on the matter.

See this helmet does not have a seam... It's seamless. It's rim is part of the helmet itself. Like it has been rolled inwards.

The bales are fixed on top of this rolled rim. Probably because there is no fear of any rim comming loose or un- fastened, thus losing the bale.

There are no markings stamped in the helmet.

On of the straps seems to be originaly mounted on there. It's the small type.
The other strap is in a darker OD color, but is clearly sewn on by hand later on in it's life.

The liner that accompanied it is a beat up Westinghouse, where the headband has been hand sewn unto the neck strap.


Below are the pictures. I haven't gotten any clue about what it is. Never heard of a M1 helmet with the rim rolled inwards.

I do not believe this is an American made helmet.
The fixed bales are rather sloppily soldered on. Absolutely not done on American manufactured helmets. Only electric welds were used .
There are , to my knowledge , no rolled rim manufactured American helmets and no known experimental ones either.
The only conclusion that I can come to is that it is a foriegn made helmet. There have been several countries use that style.

Germany made their post war Bundeswehr steel helmets in this fashion with a rolled edge & looks like someone has added fixed bails for some reason maybe re-enactment or a prop ???

The Bundeswehr helmet is the first picture that anyone could show me of another helmet with a rolled rim. It's the closest I got so far.

Unfortunately, it's still not the same helmet. I don't suppose it would be a prototype to the Bundeswehr helmet?
