M1 from the 41st Infantry Division

Article about: I just picked up this M1 at a local antique mall this afternoon. It’s the first M1 I’ve bought and I just figured I’d share a few pictures here. It has the insignia of the 41st Infantry divi

Thank y'all for the responses! The top of the shell is pretty smooth while the sides retain the more "rough" texture. Does that mean the top of the shell has been repainted?

My M1 has the same wear, over a period of a couple of service years (not to mention the 70 + years it's been handled), the lid would have been placed on the floor many times that amounts to a lot of rub to the paint on that particular area giving it that smoother finish, as opposed to the sides. When I handle my lids, I always hold them on that part, never the sides, so again over the years that can also add to the smoothness ! What a steal for $75
    Regards
