Default M1 front seam.. fixed bale.. invasion(normandy, Italy)??

    Hey

Hope your all doing very well out there. Got this helmet yesterday and it has remains of shells ( seafood armour, don't know the actual word) on it.. the guy I bought it from didn't know much were it came from because it belonged to a friend who passed away.

Any chance this helmet is a D-Day or monte casino relic?

    Cheers

All you know is it may have been under water for some time... could have been anywhere.

    Monte Cassino is highly unlikely.

So is Normandy if you are thinking it was dug out of the sand or bluffs. Metal detecting is not permitted on the beaches.

Thx for the reply.. I have no clue.. only thing I see is shells above the rim.. and somehow it looks like the helmet has been in the sand upside down. Top of the helmet is very hard. Former owner was a collector over 40 years before he passed away.. so I guess the helmet was found years and years ago. It's in good relic condition for an m1...

Thanks for the reply.. im not thinking much to be honest. But the shells on the lid are pretty uncommon in the sence that you don't often see them. And on the battlefields there are not many lakes or rivers known to me that have sea animals in terms of shells. Plus it comes from an old guy.. they got the best items for a bargain.. in europe at the actual battlefields. But you are right it is unlikely... im not saying this is normandy D Day but if you see the guys collection.. its possible lol. Unreal amount of US stuff. If I say it actually smells like sea side you guys probably say im crazy wich I understand.. but it does funny enough.

But yeah in this case its hard. But my gut feeling says its a special item.. just my gut and bare in mind im not selling any of my stuff.. just for my collection.

Going by the apparent rust pattern around it I would guess it was stacked inside another lid at some point. You need to ask a conchologist (sea shell expert) not many on this forum I imagine.
