hiya mate
unfortunately there's no way of dating Schlueter made shells the only thing i cant tell you is that it is of WW2 manufacture as they never made them post war.
Hi Nick,
Thanks for the info. I will try to judge a date based on how it looks.
no worries mate have you got pic's of it ?
Front seam vs. rear seam is about the only differentiation to date the shell I think, both Schlueter and McCord switched at rougly the same time, by direction. The start date of production of the Schlueters are a bit later than the McCords as well, but I think that's the best you're going to get in dating it.
about 18 months depending on where you get the info from.McCords july 1941.schlueters start of 1943 only produced fixed bales for about 8-9 months thenconverted to swivel version thus making fixed very rare indeed.both changed to rear in nov 44 again info varies.
So it's safe to say that Schleuter fixed bales were only produced in 1943?
The helmet isn't mine. A friend of mine was recently given a grey-painted Navy M1 by the original owner's brother, who served in the 60's. The helmet was painted grey during WWII, and then painted grey again during the 60's. It's a nice one with a Westinghouse liner. I'll get some photos from him soon, if he is willing.
