M1 - Vietnam Era?

I've had this one since I was a kid (pre 80's most likely). Used to play in the backyard with it. My Dad picked up (somewhere) for next to nothing.

Been bugging me as to what I have. So dug it out of the closet and took some pictures.

No markings on the shell. No seams either (from what I can tell).

The only mark on the liner is US - 147 (the US and 147 are bisected by a + symbol.

A few unreadable marks on the webbing which unfortunately is ripped in the front (I played hard!!!)

Will admit, I know next to nothing about the post war M1's. Is it a put together helmet?

Michael all US shells have heat treatment stamps,so its there i can ashore you,the Liner is a Marmac,the shell looks like an Ingersoll but need heat stamp to be sure.............

Hello the dates are the Mitchel covers are usually after the DSA, but in this case yours is an FSN which is from the early 60s I believe

The FSN (Federal Stock Number)has nothing to do with DSA (Defence Supply Agency).The FSN stayed the same right across the entire production line of the "Mitchell" two sided cover.from 1959 right through to 1977.The first Mitchell covers were supplied through the MCSA (Marine Corp Supply Activity)1959-1961,from late 1961 when the DSA was formed the DSA-1-1962 date was added and continued through to 1977 however and this is where the confusion starts,between 1964-1966 all Mitchell covers that were produced in that time frame came direct from Government contractors,in this instance they added a contract number instead of the regular DSA stampings,it was only after 1966 that DSA stamps returned along with other changes to the cover and its stamp markings.all contracts range from the 5000+ to 9000+.
