Heres a picture of one of my bales (rings) on mine for comparison.
This one has had the thumbs up from a few avid M1 collectors and experts and other M2 owners.
I see Nick has kindly added some other examples on the pinned Rough Guide thread.

Re: real or fake M2 airborne helmet
how can you be sure beyond any reasonable doubt that its genuine?not saying its not, just curious as they sort of unofficially dont exist anywhere, dave.

Re: real or fake M2 airborne helmet
once you've seen a few known examples of originals it can be quite easy to tell which is fake & which is not there are a few tell tale signs which make then stand out depending on how good or how bad the faker is but as fakers do get better the fine line becomes more blurred.
not sure as to what you mean by " sort of unofficially don't exist anywhere " as theres still quite a few of these types of helmet out there turning up from time to time.

Re: real or fake M2 airborne helmet
well thats your opinion nick,i suppose its all a matter of where you get your info from really dont you think?according to you there out there, according to mark bando they dont exist,so the jury is still out on this and will be for a long time i think.if the en-masse of 1945 saw them destroyed and less than 10 lids between 1000 vets made it back to the states which were all interviewed by mr bando himself over a 40 year period, then i really think from an original figure of 180,000 lids plus those lost in the field or in a museum somewhere in france,i really honestly dont believe that the average joe blogs is even remotely going to stumble upon one do you?dave.

A original 506 helmet with marking M2 with all the traps sold a couple of years ago for 75000$ at auction it was found in St mere eglise and was in the Museum in Avranche France.
