Default US 11th Airborne M1 helmet Liner - Craigslist Finds

    Hi All,
I was contacted the other day by a gentlemen on Craigslist who had a few helmets he was looking to sell. I was quite surprised to find that one was an original WWII Westinghouse Airborne Liner. It comes with it's original late war, cotton web, 4-hole chin-cup however also has the early double buckle headband. So basically an early liner (42' or later) with late war Airborne components. Everything is original to the helmet. I have, however, procured a correct nape strap and leather chinstrap to complete the liner.

The liner was repainted post war and has post war applied 11th Airborne decals. It is named as well and my research shows the soldier enlisted in 1946. However, I was able to locate his death certificate (from Fort Brag in the 1960's when he was still in service) and his lists his service start date as 1944. So I assume his 1946 enlistment was his second. I've sent away for his records which will hopefully shed some light on his service.

In any case, I hope you enjoy the photos!

Rather that staring a new thread, in addition to this liner, there was also the following helmet. Shell is a front seam, swivel bale McCord and of WWII manufacture (mid-1944 based on the lot #).

It has been repainted for Vietnam (remnants of corking from WWII are still present) and has Vietnam era chinstraps. Liner is dated 1976. When I obtained it, it had a Woodland camo PASGT cover on it, which I have removed. Definitely an odd combination...

And the last helmet included in this purchase is a 1942 dated Canadian helmet shell. Nothing too fancy, however in very good condition...

Thank you, sir! CL has been kind to me, but this is my best score on there by far!

Very, very nice liner. Like the cast buckles. The double wire sweatband is a sweet bonus.
    Well done.

An EKII, KVK W/ Swords (both with full length ribbons) and repainted M34 civic helmet with Luftshutz decal have been my best finds on CL....and they found me!

I found an ad for antique hats, one of which was a 1st pattern Heer pith helmet. The seller had other items which included a WWI and WWII EK2, HJ Armband, Eastern Front Medal, US slot brooch Air Medal, 3x5 Nazi flag, black wound badge and several tinnies and insignia. You'd think that would be my best score, but I appreciate the AB liner much more.
