    thanks for all the help
I sent him an email now to try to get my money back tomorrow.
yes, you should get your money back asap! it appears to be a Civil Defense helmet used by Norway and has a mismatched liner that they put inside from somewhere else.

honestly it's only worth maybe $40 dollars not much more

the original cork texture finish is gone, the chin straps are not even US and are also replacements.

the US did supply Norway and many others with surplus helmets after WWII

That a bummer, I find it cheaper in the US, to buy the pieces and put them together. But i don't know how it would work for you in Norway. it probably be more expensive.

Preben, glad you got your money back, however you mentioned earlier that you were going to remove the paint with fine sandpaper, for future reference, never sandpaper an original helmet, even if its been repainted, there have been numerous threads on this forum as to restoration and the removal of paint etc, if you need to restore a helmet ask on here first if your not sure, hope you succeed in your hunt for a nice M1 lid , good luck regards dave

All the while, as I was reading this thread, I was thinking: 'He'll never get his money back.........'

But now that you have, Preben, you must study what you are after before you buy,
and do not take anyone's stories at face value. There are many decent articles
with photographs of US M1 helmets on-line.
Sometimes we get impulsive and want 'instant gratification', but it is better
to arm yourself with knowledge first.

This is why War Relics Forum is such a great place !
There are so many of us who have been down the same road and taken a beating
on some things, learned about our mistakes and then tried to correct them.

Please continue your search, and I do hope it results in a wonderful original helmet
that you will be proud to show us in the near future ............ !
    Regards,

    Steve.
