US M1 Helmet Shell

I need your help... I bought this US M1 shell, with front seam, that has the number 551C, and would like to know if it is original from the time of WW2, and what the production year and what the US manufacturer?

Yes WW2 McCord early to mid 1943.

The helmet Shell is orginal WW2.

The color is not.

I think the repaint is from the Korean war-period, and it could have been laquered, given the shine.

I miss the roughening under the paint (texture). Helmets from the Korean era were simply painted over and the texture underneath was preserved.

I think the texture is still there, just hidden under the shine?
