usmc helmet with navy grey paint inside?

hello everyone, i was looking at my usmc lid for a heat stamp number and found that under the cover there is grey aroung the edges inside. the outside of the helmet has no grey at all and has the normal green with cork texture. i was wondering what you think about this. the liner is also painted black so that seems unusual also. if anyone could help me out i would appreciate it, thanks.

do you mean during the war or by a collector? the outer paint is all there but you cab see wear and use. the cover on it doesnt have an ega also
