Default Vietnam(?) era M1 and liner in the trash

I picked up this m1 from the trash heap.

The US steel pot has a heat stamp that I think says: M72A. However, it also has an ink stamp that says: 00599. The steel pot is named to: PVT E1 TOMMY HODELL. U554050599. The liner is marked US 20.

So what exactly do I have on my hands here? Can anyone provide some additional information and perhaps tell me what it's worth?

    THANKS!

I'm guessing the long number written in the sheel is actuall US 54,050,599 which would be a post war Army Draft Force service number. (between 1948 & 1966)

It's a rear seam post war shell, chin strap and liner but I can't be of much help beyond that.

Take a shot with the name and service number on the National Archives site, you might get lucky with info in this guy.

    Good Luck
