    One last one. This has a gray liner with it but do not know if it is original to the helmet. No net or shadow on this one.

    5th Marine Regiment? I am also sure I have read a discussion on lettered helmets being worn in landings in Italy and the following fighting.
    Sorry I cant quote any of it.
    At first glance of your helmet reminded me of the roman numeral 5 .
    Not much help I'm afraid but may give you something else to investigate.

    Rod, thanks for some more possible leads. The helmet is a mystery and I really want to find an answer. The Italian landings seem to be in white but anything is possible. What I like so far is the fact the letter and others letters do exist on more than this one helmet.
