Hi guys could you give me some input about this type of helmet.
1# who did get them and why.because not all airborne troops got them
2# is 10000 the correct amount produce
3# total use on D-day
4#correct price on that helmet type.
5# any other info.

1# im not sure if any units in particular received the M-2 or if they were just issued to who ever came along when they were available ?

2# one source say that 148,000 M-2's were made

3# not sure if possible to find out ?

4# be prepared to spend big money as they are very rare

US WWII M-2 D BALE HELMET

M-2 Helmet (1942 - 1944)

A special helmet shell was needed for the US WWII paratroopers. Rather than design an entirely new helmet, the US Army modified the existing M-1 helmet shell. This helmet modification was given the designation M-2 (through official proclamation by the QMC) on 23 June 1942. This is in spite of the fact that production had started quite sometime earlier in January 1942. The M-2 helmet shell was produced until December 1944 when it was officially replaced by the M-1C.

Note: The M-2 helmet was only made by McCord and only 148,000 M-2 helmet shells were ever produced.

The only airborne helmet that I have is a relic that I found in Normandy but not a D.

well i was waiting for this one to appear on ebay & here it is he's removed the chin straps & liner as well as removing the painted number off the rear & has the front to sell it as a Saving Private Ryan prop

this guy is a total waist of space & i really hope he gets his comeuppance soon

I think there have been three times as many SPR helmet props on eBay than were actually used in the entire movie! Go figure
