hello, this is a ww2 usmc helmet and cover i finally got without the ega. it isnt in the best condition but it is what i was able to get my hands on. i guess it could be worse! this is a fixed bale helmet with its original cork texture and raised bar chinstraps with a firestone liner with original green paint and a 2nd pattern cover. the question i have is if soldiers in the military cut the stitching on the chinstrap with the J-hook so it can be wrapped around the back of the helmet. added a photo of the chinstrap and a photo of the straps around the back of the helmet. thanks for any help on the straps.

No, they were not cut - what you have there is damage
by rot, rust or something else.........

from the strap in the second to last photo? itseems hard to believe since the strap itself is in good condition. if you need photos of any part of the helmet letme know.

I see what you are talking about ! It's a possibility if the strap
was made a bit too short. Not something I've encountered
before, but the straps sometimes need a good tug
    to make the ends meet..........

    Steve.

When i folded it back to its original possition it was nowhere near reaching but with the strap long it is loose when i pull it around the back of the helmet

Nice Helmet Danny, you just need to involve yourself a bit more with regards to the actual production of this iconic Helmet, that way you wouldn't post quite so silly type questions, you should know the answer to this basic question, sorry if I sound a bit harsh.......
