1943 dated Soviet made ...Aiming circle (?)

OK, I see now. Yours is what is known as a "Simplified Manual Aiming Circle". It requires line of sight, that is to say that the operator of the device must be able to see the target, or some landmark that is in line with the target. the other way to use it, is for the FDC (Fire Direction Center) to use their aiming circle to sight on the physical location of the FO (Forward Observer), then the FO uses his declinated mils compass to sight on the target. Then the FDC computes the targets location by adding, or subtracting the direction of the target from the FO, as added, or subtracted from the direction of the FO, from the FDC.

I apologize for the complicated description, but I have seen this type of device used, although it was generally used for mortars only, not regular artillery.

I had not seen your style before, but I can show you how the normal aiming circle is used.

I have a model 1943 (pictures posted in a separate thread) aiming circle, but they are used to lay the guns, or tubes in relation to a aiming fan, not to directly lay the weapon on the target.
