I thank you for the compliment. I was very pleased to find this bag! Since posting it originally, I have mended the missing buttons with a pair of original, unused black painted buttons sewn with original period thread. Now it is complete again. The bag was a German war trophy and I suspect the Soviet buttons were simply ripped off.
When in 1941 the Red Army retreated, they left the entire warehouse. I have a photo where the German untreofitser hanging Soviet tablet
buttons were different, until a piece of leather or pebble
Wonderful and congratulation Philippe,
Is it possible to know which gaz mask they were for and during wich period they could be used? Documentation on this item is very rare.
I notice that one of the bag was grey. Could we consider them as Naval or tank's one?
In advance thank you very much
Bruno
Hi,
Thanks.
Models gas mask have evolved during the war such as mask gas bag. I think the Soviets have simplified the manufacture of certain practices. The model that you think is 'gray' is dark green.
Regards.
Hi Philippe,
An other model that is more grey (I think you already saw it )
I believe it to be wartime
I was surprised by the color. Usualy we found it in some garnements. That said, some pouchs, canteen covers also have this color.
Was this general issue or linked to specific troops. That is the question
All the best
Bruno
Hi,
I think the Soviet factories manufactured equipment with different color, depending on the different tissues they received.
The equipment is for all troops.
Regards.
Philippe
