Danziger TotenschaedelDanziger TotenschaedelDanziger TotenschaedelI then replaced this horrid object with the original kind of 1927 and or 1929 Hoheitszeichen that had been on the cap when found by Manion's at the beginning of the 1990s and confirmed by Delich.

The cap is part of the SSVT Sani Abt Montur.

I do not remove the badges merely to examine the rear of said thingy, but I see little harm in restoring something that has either been denazified, which is likely true of the kepi in post war Germany, and or restore significant items which endure collector abuse because of the dogmas of "textbooks" which never existed.

These Danziger skulls look very similar to the Panzer collar tab skulls, are they the same design, manufacturing process?

Danziger TotenschaedelThe army armor badges were derived ca.1934 from the Hussar badges, whose origins reach back to the 18th century. Our Andreas reminds us of their possible origin in the regalia of the church. The SS used the hussar badges more or less from 1925 onward on its headwear. The army armor badges for the collar are smaller than those used for the headwear.

Indeed, also the skull pattern on Assmann's catalogue above is the very standard piece, that is "easier" to find. A lot of collector don't realise that they are a lot of patterns...
Here a nice picture where you can see this one. The owner is also a known man.
