    Winkelmann makes a wise point about "collector distinctions," i.e. the order we impose on the past. The past was seized of more disorder than we know.
    In any case, this is an array of perpetrators of exceptional crimes, and the contrast with before and after is telling.
    The tension with this material arises from the fact that the actual artifacts of the SSTV and so forth barely survive.
    Thanks for all the compelling images and wise analysis.

    The Kam brothers in the Waffen-SS (from left to right): Poul, Søren and Erik. The Danes were photographed in 1943 and they fought in the ranks of the Wiking Division.

    A rare sight - this man too wears the small WH Panzer insignia , it would appear to be a converted Zoll visor ( eagle / piping ) ..

    all of which proves, I think, that these stupid, over priced and over analyzed badges were hard to find even for SS persons at the height of the war.
