Hi William
Your skull looks like some brass type alloy.
Patin is also looking for brass type alloy.

Very interesting piece. There are the known unknowns here, and it is hard to get around them.
Added to this fact is that some of the "scull savants" are actually total mountebanks, whose professed knowledge is not.
Thanks to Mr. Carlsson for his fine picture archive.

the brass alloy of which you speak is called buntmetall in German.
thanks for the fine photography, very much without the sight of small flabby, human palm sweating up the historical metal and otherwise repulsing our aesthetics.
for the last scull
the patina of the hooks is artificial
Figure, material and poor details, for my opinion resemble more a copy that an authentic.

Mr. Kramer, you should ask John Telesmanich for his opinion. I value his insights. Mr. Carlsson is also very expert, but he has been away from here for awhile.
For myself, I find this goat rope about pictures of cap badges a pretty un rewarding pursuit, as you know.
I look at the thing with my own eyes, and consider most of these electric pictures misleading.
Notice statement above with the word: "mountebank."
