Petty as it may seem, it is not petty to me - even as an American who butchers the English language more often than not.

The issue here is to offer an opinion with evidence and in a manner that is helpful to others.

Too many here embrace a style of brusque expression and virtually no evidence, no real analysis.

Our colleague Winkelmann has made a wonderful post with rich evidence and presented in a pleasing, helpful style.

May others emulate his example and we thank him.

This item is apparently a new species of cast fake, which is what John Telesmanich noted on the less civil site.

As I say I own many, many real items of this kind, and virtually every piece of cap insignia of every kind seems different to me when examined under the loupe.

Perhaps this craniology is beyond my grasp.
