    Hello all..

    I have a collection of 6 banners/flags and am hoping for help with identification.

    Banner 1 measures 27 x 44 inches including the fringe. There is a rod and pocket.
    Banners? Flags? Identification help, please?

    Banner 2 measures 28 x 53 inches. It was cut down at some point, but the white circle is intact. There is a drawstring and cord at the top.

    Banner 3 measures 44 x 72 inches. There is a rod pocket.

    Banner 4 measures 47 x 108 inches. There is a rod pocket.
    Banners? Flags? Identification help, please?

    Banner 5 measures 31 x 74 inches. There is a rod pocket.
    Banners? Flags? Identification help, please?

    Banner 6 measures 56 x 50 inches. There are six rings sewn into the top of the banner. There is a brown patch on it that seems to have the letters Grntfhauten.

    Hi Beth, I'm not too well up on these items but they appear to be NSDAP banners and podium banners. Fairly common pieces. The large banners would be hung from ceilings or building fronts and the fringed ones from podiums The patch on the last one looks like it says 'Ernsthausen'. You can find out more about the place here.

    I'm sure someone else can elaborate and give you some more information.

    Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

    Thank you, Adrian. I appreciate the additional information.

    Anyone know if I should carefully iron them? I don't like the wrinkles!

    I certainly wouldn't apply an iron directly to them. If you can lie them flat and weight them down evenly it would be best but failing that you could try a cool iron but place the banners between some towels or sheets.

    Bear in mind though, they might fail a black light test after ironing as the chemicals from todays detergents in the towels/sheets can leach into the older cloth and make it glow.

    If in doubt - don't!
