Some bloody stupid laws, it's perfectly legal to buy and sell Nazi artifacts in Germany as long as the banned symbols are covered if on display in a dealers, but you can't import them?...

Hoping this works out. Hate to hear of problems like this, especially on a pricey piece. You'd hope the authorities involved would have mercy on someone with a first time situation like this.

I ask to my fiend in Germany, he tell me perhaps nobody knows the laws...except the customs !

"...zum Zwecke der Verbreitung nicht zulässig"

OK...that means that the import to Germany is forbidden when you have the intent to offer or provide it to the public.
So it's possible to interpret it like that: when you collecting these items and you will not show it in public and you will hide it privately in your appartement
there's logically no violation of the law.
But the customs has the final word on this matter

A sad state of affairs indeed --- a fascistic attempt (oh, the irony) at suppressing a part of human history that they wish would just go away, a pointless and empty effort at that. Punishing people for acquiring historic artifacts, no matter the symbol, cannot possibly bear fruits of any productive kind... surely. A draconian "just for show" law---

Anyway, hope it all works out for you in the end. To me it really does sound like you SHOULD have the law on your side... no matter what some insane customs official says. I sent a Gauleiter armband to Germany earlier this year, this was too held in customs pending payment of fees, once these were paid the package was released to the recipient immediately--- maybe they just didn't look inside

    Good luck!
