Article about: by britrecko The pics do show the word RECHT in larger script than malmedy, so a legal usage may be correct. Trust me, it's a geographical designation. The village of Recht is only 15 kilome

This is an item that i have owned for 20 years. My dealer of 35 years on seeing this said that he had never seen such a pole top with town names on the pole tops- this one has Malmedy -Recht on one side and Aachen -Koln on te other side. He had no doubt of the old world machining and the insignia engraving as being correct. Can any one help please.?

I don't know enough about these to comment on the wording per se, but I do like the look of it. I cannot really see anyone adding the text to an original item like this, as I don't see any huge price increase, and that is why con men do it after all. I think you have a good original item.

    Cheers, Ade.

Question Re: help. unusual N.S.K.O.V pole top with named towns in Belgium and Germany. dealer baffled.

Thank you Ade, as always.Malmady was the site of the massacre of 75 U.S. soldiers captured by the S.S.under the command of Col. Hans Pieper.Recht is a village a few kilometers away.Aachen was the site of a fierce battle and as the Germans were losing, reinforcements were sent in from the S.S. Division Lieberstandarte Adolf Hitler.Aachen as a town was almost destroyed {i visited Aachen several times shortly after W.W. 2] Koln is in the same region separate and has a main road leading to the industrial heartland of the Ruhr.I have no credible evidence that this item could have an S.S. connectiom, but if the item is real and unusual what makes for this different pole top.The N.S.K.O.V. is a welfare organisation for wounded vets and the families of the bereaved. In the 1950's, i was invited as a British officer to join in a reunion of a german Division decimated at Stalingrad. They were still kameraden and proud of their fighting.

I think that Koln - Aachen would have been the main area admin district and Recht -Malmedy would be the local region within that district. I don't know the NSKOV admin structure, but it sounds plausable to me?

    Cheers, Ade.

I agree. Apparently, a local Kameradschaft was the lowest organizational level of the NSKOV. The successive higher levels were (or included) Kreis and Gau.
I have almost no literature on the NSKOV either (very little exists anyway), but Vol. 2 of Wim Saris' "Headgear of Hitler's Germany" series has a section on the NSKOV and mentions officials on those three organizational levels. (Such as the Gau-, Kreis- and Kameradschafts-Ausbildungswarte [training instructors] or Gau- and Kreisärzte [physicians])

    Hi britrecko,

What are the manufacturers markings on the finial? Reason i ask is that some early ones were manufactured by Otto Gahr of Munich. This makes it very desirable as Gahr produced the finest cast items including the hardware for the 'Deutschland Erwache' and the 'SS Kampferbinde' standards.

    Regards, Ned.

P.s. Wasn't the Recht/Malmedy region ceeded to Belgium as war reparations by the Versailles Agreement after the Great War?

    Hi
look at a period geographic map : Eupen, Malmedy, St. Vith was in Germany as Luxembourg, a part of Lorraine and Alsace.
I'm not a NSKOV specialist but Malmedy is a town and "RECHT" no!
In german word "Recht" is something like "legal rights". (Excuse my poor english I'm french)
Eupen-Malmedy-St. Vith is belgian territory since 1920, and during WWI people have to fight with Germany.
    Cheers

Sorry, but you will find that, in this case, Recht is indeed a village. It is part of the aforementioned municipality of St. Vith. There is even an article on it from the French version of Wikipedia...:

    Recht - Wikipédia

....which I admittedly do not understand, though, as I don't speak French.

These replies gladden my heart since, i know so little about this organization. The pics do show the word RECHT in larger script than malmedy, so a legal usage may be correct. Col Pieper was brought to trial for the massacre after the war and was aquitted so does this word Recht on the flagpole show support. It was common knowledge that the advancing allies killed prisoners as well. "The Col. Luxenberger Affair"No makers mark and Malmedy was in the battle of the Bulge in 1944. I could not find a makers mark. The big unanswered question is why this poletop has town names noted. It is unlike the other pics of other NSKOV poletops. Baffling. Would such poletops be made late in the war when materiel was in short supply or afterwards as a support for the trial verdict? Thank you for the help. Keep the replies coming please and thank you to those who have answered so far.
