Description: This transitional Eickhorn SS Dagger is a textbook example. The crossguards and tang nut are nickel-plated. The plating is still bright throughout, having no visible freckling or lifting.
The grip is of fine ebony, and a medium contour construction. This grip has no repairs and is in perfect condition, showing very little usage. The grip is equipped with an SS runes button that is set straight up and down. The enamel to the button is in perfect condition, and the SS runes nicely match the double-circled borders. The nickel grip eagle is of the "high-necked" variety and despite some minor surface wear all the details to the head, breast and wing feathering, as well as the talons and wreathed mobile swastika are still visible. This grip fits the crossguards like a glove. A very nice hilt here.
The scabbard shell is straight throughout. This shell is a real beauty, having outstanding original black paint. This paint is still at 100%, and other than a couple of age spiders and the slightest bit of carrying wear is in near Mint condition. The scabbard mounts are the nickel-plated steel variety. Both mounts are in perfect condition, to include the lower ball. These mounts are retained by steel dome-head screws, which are all unturned.
The blade is also a beauty. It is still bright and has 100% of the original cross graining. There are a couple of extremely minor signs of age in the surfaces, but not enough to take this blade away from a Mint rating. The motto is crisp, and retains 100% of the original factory darkening present in the letters; a great looking blade as it comes out of the scabbard!
The reverse of the blade is double proofed. It features an open, small style RZM mark, positioned over the code, “9 41/38 SS”. Below this is the 1935-41 Eickhorn trademark, which features the sword-bearing Eickhorn Squirrel. Position above and below the animal can be seen the words, “Original” and “Eickhorn/Solingen” respectively. The lower blade shoulders perfectly fit the lower crossguard contour.
A textbook transitional Eickhorn Double Proof here; a great addition to any SS collection.
Condition Mint Minus.
