I found an aircraft piece similar to that with a block of wood that looks just like it, will post some pics, I thought the piece I found was from a wellington though

I think it's phenolic rather than wood.
That is not wood. It looks like Micarta to me. Micarta has been around since the early 1900's and was still used on the A4's and F5's military jets I worked on.

With regard to "Nyloc" nuts...
WW2 period fastenings of this type are correctly referred to as "Simmonds Fibre Locknuts." They have a red fibre collar insert swaged into the top of the body of the nut.
"Nyloc" nuts have a nylon collar insert; the colour of which is normally blue or grey for aircraft applications. "Nyloc" nuts are Post-war, but interchangeable with Simmonds Fibre Locknuts.
