Battle-damaged Vehicle Scrap yard - Site 1

Tim, in fairness whilst the laws are too much the other way now part of the problem is that a lot of stuff is left lying around on purpose and is booby trapped - as i shall show in the next batch of pics from site 2.

The Taliban know Brits and troops in general are magpies so are resourceful and creative in their methods of trying to inflict casualties, hence the "no touch" - type ruling. My "tour guide"/security escort outside the wire was a WO2 EOD instructor so he was very clear in what was safe and not.

The other issue is that after the Gulf War (1990-91), there was tons of kit that got brought home, especially weapons and there was a well-known incident involving a sourvenired AK47 being used to murder the girlfriend of an SF chap. So, like all these things, big knee jerk reaction and everyone gets to suffer.

As an aside, the posters pinged all round camp by the MP's show the photo of a gold-plated AK47 that someone acquired!

Fascinating stuff and i can see maybe the point with leaving the souvenir hunting well alone in Afghanistan. Look forward to seeing the next lot of pics though mate, brilliant stuff. Regards, Tim.

Meanwhile, another piece of kit on our base.....WW2 dated and still traversed and elevated like new.....with one obvious teeny weeny problem!
