Hello, some infos?
It's easy to be romantic about it, but just like the wilds of Russia, there are places here that are rarely travelled where things can hide. I've been told stories of things that were found by some of the 'pioneering' road crews here in the 50's.
My own uncle served in the SAS and after he left, devoted time to looking for evidence of possible Japanese presence on the WA coast (the area in question happens to be our traditional family country). Stories had been told by some of the full-bloods who were still living a traditional life at the time, and had observed Japanese. He did find things, but difficult to get conclusive evidence. Definietly no secret hidden airbases or sub-pens! Still tickles the imagination though.
That country really is trackless. Anything could be out there
Strongly recommend getting hold of a book called 'The Searchers' about Keith Rundle, who lead missing RAAF crew recovery efforts in Aus and PNG after the war. Very interesting read.
---edit: Just realised the date of the OP
