well I threw that piece away as the asbestos word scares me

No idea what that bit is I'm afraid but it certainly isn't a landmine.
However, just to be on the safe side, I suggest you invite Davejb round and get him to jump up and down on it at the end of your garden. Even if it is an AT mine, he's heavy enough to set it off.
Hiya, it is a lid from an old milk churn. I know we bought Ade's Mum and Dad an old churn as a garden ornament.
