The condition is amazing pity it has no unit markings.
The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )

Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.

Note the MP-40 in the last picture. I wonder if that had been inside the Stug?

I see no obvious combat damage, so I wonder why the crew abandoned the assault gun? I wonder if they ran out of fuel, or just got stuck in the swamp, and had to skedaddle to avoid capture, or death.

    Hmmmmmm

It should be indoors and proply maintained, it such a shame it has been left to rust outside now. it was perfectly preseved by the swamp, and now it fades away. i wonder if there are any pics of interior?

    Cheers,

The interior of this Stug was never shown along with the remains of the crew but i do know it was stripped out by the guys who recovered it and the items quickly sold off before the Russian government could seize them
There was said to be documents and maps preserved as well as many personal items. We believe it was part of Stug Brigade 226 as they reported "2 gun's missing" in the Poskov area during the retreat in 1944.
I have the Radio Reciever unit and rack from this vehicle and there is an album available for viewing in my profile

The Stug was not abandoned but turned upside down in the swamp after breaking ice during the retreat! Possibly a few crew members escaped before it filled with water The MP40 was found inside along with an Mg42, ammo and grenades
