This item was reported to me today (found in a field). The finder insists that the police has seen it and that it isn´t a grenade. I just thought you guys might want to give your opinion. All help welcome!

I think Plod may be wrong. It looks just like a WW1 rifle grenade to me, but best wait for the ordnance guys.

It could actually be WWI as it was found near a railway crossing where German troops advanced towards Helsinki during the Finnish civil war in 1918.

I also think its most likely a WW1 rifle grenade but I don't recognise the type.
Id agree, it is some sort of rod grenade, early version of a rifle grenade. Almost looks like a German 1914 model but there are a few difference, just from these pictures.
