Ummm ... notice the chainsaw in photo 3 and the uncannily smooth (and symmetrical cuts) across the poor fellow's tibule / fibula....ouch...gotta get the poor bloke out somehow though.

    Amazing preservation though...truly...wow!!

I think the chain saw was more likely for the props and timbers A frame construction.

you can free trapped legs with a car jack if you know what your about, and as some one already mentioned the feet may well have been removed by the rudder bar.

That's for sure. I certainly admire the work that a lot of our Russian friends currently do in terms of repatriation of war dead from both sides. I'm very impressed with the work of Ostlandigger and love following Dimas' posts. It's living and breathing history, an experience that must be unbeliveable ... wlaking over the positions that som many brave young men fought and died for.

We all collect this stuff and love researching the history behind it; but when you boil it down, it's a pity we fight wars at all.

What was the date of recovery of the pilot's body and plane?

This is one of the most incredible posts I have ever seen on a forum. To look at this fallen pilot so well preserved is an eerie and sobering look back in time. It really makes me think much deeper and more respectfully concerning the items I have. I am very glad that he was found so that his remains can be placed in a marked location.

I know this thread has had enough Wow's already but, other words to describe this scene escape me. Fascinating and very sobering.

I collect crash relics, and mount and display them with pleasure and a degree of excitement. But seeing these pictures really bring home the massive human loss on all sides!

Those airman have my upmost respect.
