My grandpa talked of this invasion. I have a recorded memoir of him talking of this specific battle. You can hear my grandpa when i say, "Peleliu," him take in a shivering breath. The fear in his eyes was unforgettable.

This reminds me in some way about the island of Biak in New-Guinea where I was for my military service 50 years ago (1961-1962).
In the caves there one could find things likewise. I did not collect then, but I have seen lots of Japanese helmets, bayonets, water
bottles etc. Much of this stuff was in a rather good condition. And in the bush you could find also weapons and other things. The caves
were closed after the war (I thought the early fifties) and opened again in about 1958 or 1959.
