It certainly is mate!
This picture really made me sit back and think! It's a graphic illustration of WW2! My great uncle Joe fought in France during the D-Day landings, as did my step-dad's father - Noel.
Respect to all those who fought, and lost their lives!

Nice to see they are getting treated properly.
I was intrigued by this bit in the article.....
The grave was found on May 8th by an amateur historian investigating the battlefield around Bavent, seven miles north east of Caen.
.........amateur historian ? No way ! Metal detectorist after relics I'll bet.
Still....at least he reported the find which cannot be said for all MDers, unfortunately.

At the time just so much battlefield rubbish to be disposed of. One thing the vets always remember, other than the mortars, was the smell.

Re: The remains of 5 German soldiers found (D-Day)
Shortly after landing in France, my uncle Joe was firing heavy artillery on a German position. After it all went quiet, and the position was secured, one of the guys shouted Joe to come and inspect the damage his gun had done. He described a scene of total devastation! He said he'd never forget the sight.... or indeed the smell!
I interviewed Joe for a good couple of hours, and recorded it on dictaphone. I'll type out, and post the transcript shortly.

As Woody says: A graphic illustration of the tragic consequences of war.
Their poor mothers may have never known any details
of their deaths at all. "Missing - Presumed dead in Normandy"
At least now these boys can be properly identified, returned to
their families and given a decent burial, - RIP.

Really nice to see that the old wounds are closing and all the vets of the war are being respected. Thanks for sharing the pic.
