Here is a rare part for later Messerschmitt ‘109s (types G-10, G-14, K-4). The earlier, framed canopy on ‘109s was found increasingly unsatisfactory, in terms of weight, and particularly in lack of vision. A new style of canopy was introduced, known as the Erla Haube , after the Messerschmitt Erla Werk factory. Colloquially, it was also known as the Galland Hood, after the famous General der Jagdflieger.
Condition, as the photos show, is generally good. Under the heavy, later coat of paint there is some corrosion, but this is not serious on these heavy steel structures. The armour glass is of course damaged but is essentially complete, and it is the correct glass which corresponds to the frame. It is rare to find these larger ‘109 parts in this relatively good, undistorted condition, as most were damaged in crashes and/or scrapped.
