Nice relic and i should think it would clean up well for display, My view is also a a flash hider for an mg of some kind, i would like to know what it came off though.

It looks like the tail end of a rocket. There is no evidence of a barrel is there?
I still think its a barrel, there is a screw thread there, where the flash suppressor would be screwed on
Yeah my vote goes to a flash hider as well. More Mg34 over 42. Where is the piece coming from? Might add to help with the puzzle

im with Ian on this one looks like the remnants of an exploded rocket motor,,heres some pics from a panzershcreck rocket to show why i think this......
just like to add i found these photos on line ,,,gunbroker i think,,but thought they would come in usefull sometime for reference

Well done spotter! I reckon you and Ian hit the nail on the head. I had never seen the back end of a panzerschreck rocket without the fins before but with your link and the pic above it looks to be a match. Would explain the thread and absence of barrel opening.
