    Hey Mate.
    That is true.
At the end of WWII the Americans offered to sell all of the equipment to the Islanders.
The Islanders said no, thinking the Americans would just leave it and go home.
They instead built and big ramp into the harbour and drove everything into the water.
Tanks, Jeeps, 6 wheel studebakers, equipment, sheets of metal, etc....
    I will add more pics.

Is that a GM straight 6 cylinder head on the beach? Lol, I was looking for one of those a while go, but in better condition.
But driving the stuff in the ocean is common, I once spoke to a Dutch marine who fought in Gunea. after the war they just dumped everything in the ocean, filling a 400 meter deep hole in the ocean bed. At low tide the stuff still sticking out, so you can imagen how much gear went down there!

I used an old under water camera from 1983 for the first lot. Hanimex 35 Amphibian. ok down to 50m.
The 2nd lot I got off the net. Not sure what kind but would've been 100% underwater camera. Not in a case.
These were the pics that inspired me to go.
Will add some more of the ones I took.
Not as clear as the others due to ISO 200 film.
    Should've used 400.
But was hard to set the exposure control dial to get the best result.
Maybe a little darker would've been the go.
Hope you can see them ok?
