Allgemeine SS Helmet? Need your expertise.

I noticed that too Gwar, and couldn’t imagine an Allgemeine SS helmet leaving the factory like that, but if original, who knows how those early SS decals aged? I’ve read that they were transfers applied to the helmet after a varnish or lacquer had been applied firstly and then allowed to become tacky before application of the decal.

What you say is true for face down decals. Face up decals (like SS Pochers) were water slide transfers.

Having looked into the man mentioned, I have found a couple of things.

On the Volksbund I found an Armin Jantz (Not Arnim Jantz), but the date and place of birth match the details on the Ausweis.

Name: Armin Jantz
Date of birth: 31.07.1911
Place of birth: Thorn
Death/missing date: 10.01.1945
Death/missing place: nicht verzeichnet
Service rank: Unteroffizier

Armin Jantz is buried in the military cemetery in Weeze-Kriegsgräberstätte, Germany.

Also there is a casualty card on Ancestry.

Name: Armin Jantz
Rank: Unteroffizier
Birth Date: 31 July 1911
Birth Place: Landkreis Thorn
Military Unit: 1./Kompanie Grenadier Regiment 1222

Death Place: Hamb Bei Kapellen
Mother: Luise Jantz

He died due to an illness.






I found his Ausweis online -

I can't say that is definitely the same man with the connection to the helmet, but I thought I would add this here for your guys thoughts.

Saw those too Will and sold by a major dealer as well. Definitely appears to be the same man in these photos as in the OP’s.

Thank you for looking these up and posting them! If I get lucky and this helmet turns out to be legit or at least somewhat legit, all that info will be great to have. I will keep everyone posted!
