Double decal M40 4th SS Polizei Division helmet

can anyone tell me over PM or just post it here what the numbers in the back of my polizei helmet means? D172 or 0172... I think it's D but it's so hard to see, thx =)

It is a lot number. All it indicates is the batch of steel that the helmet was made from.

A bit concerned about the decals, there should be a flag instead of the SS runes, they also look "fresh" to mel.

Polizei decal looks good, the Runes are questionable for me.
Mind you that this Polizei eagle is the reissue type so also not easy to see on M40 helmets.
That is the problem with undocumented digs (and even documented digs can be staged).
One can learn something from ground finds but I trust more in what I learn from above ground finds.

Hadn't seen this thread before. Read through it quickly, and didn't see any comments on the leather in the liner. That alone calls this helmet into question for me. Also has serious questions regarding the runes. I am not a believer. Jim G.
