Early / Transitional SS m18? Opinions

I have been looking for one like this.
This is not SS but early police fire helmet.
The liner is good and the decals also.
What is the mark on the front rust or other?

Yes, this same exact helmet was posted on ebay just a day or two ago. I checked it out very carefully and even had it on my watch list.

I had several police helmets with this form of insignia back in the 60's. they were in gray and black. i have seen them with metal insignia and also decals.

Thanks for the insight Bob I saw a few with the metal insignia while looking for similar helmets and did not know if they were authentic. Do any of you know the value of this helmet I do not want to overpay or screw him over. Thanks
