Are the runes painted? I am not commenting on the originality, or lack thereof, of this piece, and I haven't studied Italian helmets at all, but I seem to recall being told that SS insignia on Italian helmets were almost always painted, not decaled.

Ade, are you sure the lid itself is post war? The vents and rectangular shaped shaped bales look WWII vintage to me...?

Ade, I don't know anything about Italian helmets. Is the "55" in the liner the size or the year?

Yes fake SS Italian decals. I've studied these under magnification and they are postwar. Jim painted is also my understanding.
