latvian SS stahhelm?

Supposed to be original german m40 relic helmet , this was found in latvia and has been told to be from the latvian legion ss volunteers , its a m40 gelmet with the rear helmet band stud still in place and a set of ss runes on the side

A closeup of the decal area would probably be needed to give an exact opinion, but from the picture the decal doesnt look right at all. Unless the Latvian SS Runes were different compared to the more "normal" German type? I personally think that the decal on this has been added to give the helmet an additional selling point It looks like that it was painted on by hand to be honest, whether this is period done is anyones guess.

As Ade said, the dimensions of the decal look completely wrong, look at the right of the decal and compare it to the left

I agree, this is one of the worst decals I have ever seen.

GOT OFFERED THIS ONE A WEEK AGO LOOKS THE RIGHT LUFTY COLOUR SEE THE PAINTED OVER DECAL? IT LOOKS PERIOD DONE BUT THEN YOU NEVER KNOW,WORTH A RESTORATION JOB OR BUYING?

And yep on the ss one i wouldnt touch a so called ss helmet as a real ones as rare as rocking horse doo in my opinion i just like now getting some good feedback on what i've spotted

Save your money. An original painted over decal would not show up as obviously as that does. The decal is too thick. Also note that the paint goes over the rust pitting, so not period.
