M35 SS helmet real?

yep. but it's really hard to tell at this point. I am just glad it's an original helmet ; - )

The helmet smell like dirt and I think it could use some careful cleaning. Any tips?

As far as I can see it looks like a swastika on one side instead of the tri-colour. Is that possible?

The writing in the interior states "Obergefreiter". As I'm sure you know this is Wehrmacht rank and not Waffen SS. I'd say this helmet has quite a bit of "personality" to it...Congratulations on a good score, and thanks for taking the time to share it with us!

The partial name in the helmet has part of the Heer rank "Obergefreiter." Not a SS rank. The rough paint finish would indicate a period repaint eliminating the possibility for a tricolor decal.
