    out of curiousity is the ss decal always on the left or right side?

    Is this helmet SS?

    Almost always on the right yes, however foreign volunteers in the SS often had the shield on the left. A double decal police helmet that has been reissued to the SS will sometimes see the police shield covered with runes (on the left) and the original party shield on the right left in place. I'm sure there are other instances too but very few and far between.
