M42 relic - with twin SS-runes.

Article about: Hi, I have this M42 SS-helmet with twin SS-runes. ...bought this helmet 7-8 years ago from a great-collector in UK - it was in his personal collection. It was himself that dug it up at Ilmen

I do not think this vulcanfiber helmet ever has been posted on any forum - besides the danish forum I have posted on.
...there are no decals on this one - none you can see anyway.

    Hi,

    I still got this helmet.

Thought I would try my new USB-microscope on the decals.
The microscope range goes from 25x zoom to 600x zoom.

Of course, these new pictures won't change facts about the helmet.
I think the USB-microscope is a "funny" tool to use on such relics.
...I spend many hours with my metaldetector.

Im afraid the rough condition doesn't show much of the decals. With a USB I spend about an hour per decal, on various levels of magnification and have several areas I key on depending on what the decal maker is, looking for the 'fingerprints" I have identified as being consistent for each decal.

With only a couple of photos and the poor condition it is really difficult to make an assessment good or bad.

    In hand is always best.

Yes, the condition of the decals is rough!

DougB, are you saying that the decals have a small chance of being good?
...I had already written of the helmet as bad - nearly gave it away months ago.

Here are a few more Pictures.

I don't think so, the sanding marks to the decals are obvious. These decals have been artificially aged.

I honestly dont care for them much and the USB pics really do not help. That said nothing beats an in hand. If you want to mail it to me I would be glad to check it out and mail it back to you, I will pay the postage back. I would hate to be wrong and you give away a real helmet.

How can it be corrosion over the whole helmet, even under the decals, but the decals are still attached to the corroded helmet.

That means the decals has been placed there AFTER the whole helmet was heavily corroded , Or am i totally wrong here?

Or the helmet has been used in this condition, something i find hard to believe.

Please excuse me if i am wrong here, just a detail regarding this helmet that bugs my mind.

Thanks for the nice offer DougB...but I think I will save us both the money and keep the helmet in my garage in Denmark.

As I mentioned earlier, new USB pictures won't change facts about this helmet.

    Thanks for opinions guys
