Re: M42 relic - with twin SS-runes.
The both look to be EF decals Dan, are they on M42's the two of them? I think a Pocher decal for example would stand up better than an EF. They look to be a bit thicker (microns but still...) and the pulver in a Pocher looks to be much more substantial and have higher metallic content than on an EF. I have seen some earlier lids with a really great looking decal remaining. But really I think the main factor is where it was dropped.

Re: M42 relic - with twin SS-runes.
Hi Andy,
The more complete one is on a M42 - this thread was started by Maris- https://www.warrelics.eu/forum/ss-he...sition-200728/ and the other less complete one is a M40 M40 SS relic helmet - another impulse buy!!!!!
I agree there are good ones out there - I just won't take the risk .......

Re: M42 relic - with twin SS-runes.
I might add, that Kelly Hicks has seen this helmet - I am sure you know him.
...he would not say good or bad, because the relic condition of the helmet.
But as he says - "it makes a nice conversation piece though"...looks like he's right there.
He is certainly a man who knows his SS-helmets.
I got a vulcanfiber helmet he has seen also.

Hi there,Kelly is a real expert on these SS helmets as is Doug.As for my humble opinion, well this really does not look good to me i'm afraid. The decals show inconsistent features such as: un-even breaks to the shield.: positioning of the runes within the shield seem to vary in height and angle. The decals are on top of pitted areas of the helmet. I think Kelly was probably just being polite as he didn't have the helmet in hand to look at,he will not put his name to anything that he is not convinced of,and Doug will help you out with his vast experience any day, listen to him as I do,we all learn a lot from him!! All the best, and I hope you find a good SS soon, Leon.

Re: M42 relic - with twin SS-runes.
I am absolutely sure that Doug is an SS-helmet expert - no doubt about that.
I just simply added what Kelly said about this helmet - nothing wrong with that I hope.
"it makes a nice conversation piece though" - Kelly said.
...just look at this tread - he's right!
No more SS-helmets for me - to many fakes!
I do perhaps have another fake M42 SS-helmet.
Found in the Ardennes - found with leatherbelt and SS-belt buckle inside.
No decals are present on this helmet.

Glenn could you do a thread on yours? I like what I see and it appears to be a relic NS (champagne) decal, something I've looked years for as it's a somewhat controversial decal to some. Is the shell an NS or SE?
Re- Kelly, were very good friends and yes I usually plead the 5th as well with relics for the same reasons Kelly gave but in this case with the pics provided I am 100% sure. As a forum moderator I feel it's best to say it how I see it. Sometimes it's not what the OP want to hear ( that it's fake ) or less diplomatic but given the venue and the audience I feel it's best and time has thus proven right from my perspective, I hope you understand.
