Looks like a bad decal covered over but better close up photos will help !!
The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )
1st July 1916
Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader
House Carles at the Battle of Hastings
Looks like someone scrubbed down a bad decal to hide the details that give it away, that is my first impression but impressions are all one can give. We need a close head on no glare photograph picture of the decal and reallly need to see the interior of a helmet, it tells half the story as well.
It's ex my helmet, if I right remember, that was a early 1960's Demjansk found helmet

From a view it does looks as if it had a bad decal applied. Not your ususal faded outline of the runes. Of course the picture is not dead on the decal. But if Dimas had once owned this helmet i am not surprised it's originality. Many times he has shown what may appear fake was in reality real.
hi i did buy this from espenlaub about 3yrs ago and its got battle scars on the top wich adds more interest to me
Hi, is it possible for you to post some more and better pics, underneath showing the liner, the rivets and paint closeups etc... It appears to have a good history, so it would be best for all if you can provide more images.
Thanks, Jerry
